1: “As long as we rule India we are the greatest power in the world. If we lose it, we shall drop straight to a third rate power.”
This quote shows that India was the most important British colony. Only by ruling India Great Britain became the biggest colonial power at that time. If they had lost India they would have lost this status. Because the other colonies weren’t as important as India was for Great Britain. There they only had to pay but not in India. The British men got many goods and raw materials from India.
That’s why India plays a very important role for Great Britain.
2. In the past Great Britain preyed India for its raw materials. But today India is a strong country that produces its own goods. So today they are equated and there are even Indian companies that buy British ones (see this article).
Hey Stoffel!
I think your work deserves a compliment :] As you can see I chose the same quote (but coincidently) and came to the same conclusion: India was the most important colony for Britain because of its valuable goods, its workers and its great market. And that is why the biggest fear of the British was to lose this colony.
I was delighted to see that we agree about this
Have a nice sunday evening!

Hi Stefan,
a good comment on the chosen quote, especially nice that you added a link to show the most recent news related with the topic.
However, I would like to add that in the sense of getting ressources from a country I would prefer to use the word “(to) exploit” instead or “(to) prey”.
Also, I would have liked to read some information on what was meant by “The British men got many goods and raw materials from India.” What goods are we talking about? Why were those important to Great Britain. … And just another quick hint on language, don’t say “British men”, just say “the British”, otherwise one could get the idea that there was only a small group of specific men who benefitted from India instead of the British nation.
Best Wishes,
Mr. Münch
Hey Stievy
I agree with your comment on the quote. When I read it I had approximately the same thoughts. I also like that you put a fitting link on the blog.
See you tomorrow
